The owner of a South Surrey hair salon made lofty plans for her prime second-storey waterfront space when she first opened last September. After months of hard work and determination, she is inviting the community to the inaugural event at her unique dual-purpose space.

Seventh Heaven Hair Gallery and Bio Salon is now also a venue for the arts. An After Dinner Affair happens Valentine's Day evening, from 8 p.m. to midnight. Local custom furniture designer, sculptor, artist and photographer Dale Ramsey of Beyond Form headlines the evening. Ramsey, who designed the salon's art nouveau reception desk, will create an early-'50s boudoir-style atmosphere with two Art Deco dressing stands that will set the stage for dancers Lisa Derry and Erin Wright.

Chloe Scarf opened Seventh Heaven Hair Gallery and Bio Salon last year with the intension of eventually using her space in a joint business venture with her partner, local artist Lucan Charchuk.

"In late 2006 we had a dream, a seed of an idea for a joint business collaboration that would marry the aesthetic beauty of art with the much needed natural beauty of non-ammonia hair colour and organic hair care products," said Scarf.

Charchuk will be in the "Drawing Room" creating colourful water pencil works for guests, who can dress up in a range of vintage costumes. Also attending the event is Sandy Johnson-Yu, aroma-therapist creator of signature perfumes Seventh Heaven & Heaven Scent and Karen Nelson of Teas Me Truffles.

"It is our creative network which enables us to bring more to people together than we can do on our own," said Scarf. "Both Dale and Lucan engage a high level of workmanship in their creativity. Their collaboration with Seventh Heaven is a long awaited opportunity to receive the artistic recognition they each deserve," Scarf said.
"Working with the talents of these two creative individuals has enabled us to achieve something magic, beyond what any one of us might have done on our own."

With the help of SEEDS business entrepreneurial development program, Charchuk created the business plan for his art and collaborated with Scarf and artistic associate Ramsey to create an aesthetically pleasing space that is practical as a hair studio as well as aesthetically pleasing to showcase art.

When Scarf first opened her studio, she designed the space to work as both a salon and a gallery. The stations are portable and easily move into a more convenient location for when the space becomes a gallery.

The studio converts into an acoustically perfect show space with 16-foot-high ceilings and plenty of natural light from ocean view windows.

"Seventh Heaven has created something beyond our wildest dreams that would not only serve our creative needs, but allow us to give back to the community," said Scarf.
