A Native of British Columbia, Gary Kingman graduated from Vancouver School of Art in 1967. He later joined the staff of the Hudson's Bay Company where he worked as an interior designer until early 1973 when he transferred to Calgary to manage the interior design studio.

From 1974-79 Gary taught drawing, design and and painting at Mount Royal College in Calgary. It is at this stage where he first specialized, working exclusively in water colour, displaying his maturing expertise with both experimental and figfurative subjects.

In 1979, Gary moved back to the coast and settled at Crescent Beach where he produced many watercolours. Gary completed numerous commissions and was one of the founding members of the Crescent Beach Artists at Hand. He also participated in their semi-annual shows.

Gary opened his first one-man show at the New Westminster Library Gallery of Painting in 1983 and later joined the Federation of Canadian Artists (FCA) in 1986. In 1987, he sumitted two paintings to the jury-based FCA watercolour show, both were accepted and one, "Papa Henry", received the FCA award.

Recently, Gary was accepted into the prestigious National Watercolour Society's 70th Annual Show in Fullerton, California and displayed one of 75 watecolours chosen from over 1400 submissions. The show, which gives artists intense national and international exposure, ran from November 1990 to January 1991.
